Chongqing wants to be the largest production base of British BP in China Chongqing, the only municipality directly under the central government in Western China, recently said that it will use its rich natural gas resources and the current domestic leading natural gas chemical technology to cooperate with British BP to build its largest production base in China
Chongqing has a good cooperative relationship with BP, the world oil giant. BP, Sinopec Sichuan Vinylon plant and Chongqing construction investment company jointly invested US $200 million to build Yangtze River acetyl Chemical Co., Ltd. in Chongqing six years ago. The company was officially put into operation in November, 1998, with a profit of US $3million in its first year
it is reported that this is the largest productive project investment made by Britain in inland China so far. The existing acetic acid production capacity of Yangzi River acetyl Chemical Co., Ltd. has been increased from 150000 tons in the initial production period of soybean based panacea bioplastics produced by the company with bater's technology. At present, in the domestic acetic acid market, this company's product share has exceeded 30%, becoming the largest acetic acid production enterprise in China with less new capacity
Bao Xuding, mayor of Chongqing, said in a recent meeting with Byron grott, CEO of BP chemical, that Chongqing has rich natural gas resources, leading domestic natural gas chemical technology, and the successful cooperation with BP group on the YARACO project, which shows that Chongqing has the strength to become the largest production base of BP group in China
Bao Xuding said that as the youngest municipality directly under the central government in China and the largest central city in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, which has been recognized by many intravenous infusion device manufacturers in the world, due to the lack of market awareness of aerogel gel materials, Chongqing has leading advantages in industrial foundation, science and technology, talents and so on
Byron believes that BP's success in Chongqing has become a model for the company to invest in China and has strengthened BP's confidence in its development in China
it is reported that the second phase project of Yangzi River acetyl Chemical Co., Ltd. with an annual output of 80000 tons of acetate has broken ground at the beginning of the year. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in June next year to produce acetate, a downstream product of acetic acid with rising demand in the domestic market
the joint venture will also expand the current 200000 tons of acetic acid production capacity to 350000 tons, and plans to put into production in the first quarter of 2003. After the expansion, it will still use the local rich natural gas and methanol as raw materials
